New: 7 times more retina!

It’s not just the holidays that have us buzzing here at Coastal Vision. Recently, we added the Eidon wide-field retinal imaging system to each of our four offices. And, this is kind of a big deal. To be more specific, it’s about 7x more of a big deal than our old retinal imaging device.  That's because it gives us a 7 times wider view of your retina.  It’s like our new retinal imaging system ate seven of our old ones!

What Does 7x More Retina Mean for You?  Earlier detection.   Better care.   Better long-term eye health outcomes.

What is a Retinal Imaging Device?

First, let’s define the retina. The retina, located at the back of your eye, is like the film in a camera. It captures light, converts it into

vision signals, and then sends those signals to your brain. The retina essentially gives your brain the visual information you need to see.

But it’s more than that—it’s also a window into your overall eye health and even your general health.

Conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, blood disorders, and other systemic diseases often show their earliest signs in the eyes.

A retinal imaging device is a specialized camera designed to look through your pupil and capture a detailed picture of your retina. By getting a clear, wide, and detailed view, we can detect problems earlier—giving you a better chance to treat and manage them effectively.

What Makes Eidon Wide-Field Imaging Better?

Traditional retinal imaging captures only a small portion of your retina at a time. While helpful, it can miss important details.

Thankfully, technology has evolved. At Coastal Vision, we’re proud to offer Eidon wide-field imaging at all locations.

With Eidon, here’s what you can expect:

  • 7x More Retina: We now see a significantly larger portion of your retina, including most of the peripheral areas that were previously hidden.
  • Sharper, True-Color Images: Eidon captures images in true color and high resolution, allowing us to spot subtle details. It also works well even if you have cataracts, which wasn’t always possible with older devices.
  • Advanced AI Stitching: Eidon combines multiple images into one seamless picture, ensuring nothing is overlooked.

In short, Eidon gives us the tools to see more, so we can do more for your eyes.

How Does This Benefit You?

1. Earlier Detection of Eye Diseases

By capturing such a large, detailed view of the retina, Eidon helps us detect conditions earlier than ever before. This is especially important for diseases like:

  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Retinal tears or detachments
  • Glaucoma
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)

Early detection allows us to take action before these conditions cause irreversible damage.

2. A More Comfortable Experience

Eidon’s advanced technology means pupil dilation may not always be necessary. This means less light sensitivity and discomfort during your visit. The imaging process is also simple—just a few flashes of the camera, and we take care of the rest.

3. Sharper, More Accurate Results

Eidon produces crystal-clear images in true color, enabling us to spot even the smallest changes in your retina.

4. Peace of Mind

Whether you’re managing diabetes, concerned about your family history of eye disease, or simply staying proactive, Eidon’s comprehensive imaging ensures that nothing is missed.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

The process is simple, quick, and non-invasive:

  1. Sit comfortably while the Eidon camera captures several images of your retina.
  2. The imaging process only takes a few moments—there’s no discomfort or long wait times.
  3. Your doctor will review the images with you during your exam, showing you the full picture of your eye health.

You’ll leave your appointment with answers, confidence, and a clear plan to protect your vision.
